Trucks major killers in Capital

New Delhi: Trucks and blueline buses remain major killers on Delhi roads accounting for more than half of a total of 548 deaths in accidents in the national capital, so far this year.

According to official statistics, 243 people were killed in accidents involving trucks on the city roads while 13 others grievously injured. There were several others who suffered injuries, but not of serious nature.

The figure for blueline buses is 115 so far this year while accidents involving DTC buses took 53 lives till November-end.

"Trucks are the major killers on Delhi roads. They accounted for 44.34 per cent of the deaths. The main problem is that many of the truck drivers do not know driving etiquette followed in Delhi," a senior police official said.
Delhi Police had in August initiated a special drive to check drunken driving by truck drivers.
