New Delhi:
Two persons were arrested on Friday here for allegedly stabbing to death a young software engineer for resisting their robbery attempt while he was returning home after celebrating a birthday, police said.
The accused Raju and Shashi also attempted to kill one of their rivals barely 2-3 hours after murdering the software engineer Vivek Bharadwaj in west Delhi's Janakpuri on July seven.
Raju was apprehended by a crime branch team from Dabri Mor when he went to meet his associates at around 9 am today while Shashi was arrested from near Uttam Nagar Metro station by West Delhi district police.
Bharadwaj, who worked in a software firm in Noida, was returning to his Janakpuri C-I Block flat after having dinner at his sister's place nearby when he was waylaid by Raju and Shashi.
"Raju told us that he and Shashi intercepted Bhardwaj at Pankha Road and demanded his money and mobile phone on knife-point. Bharadwaj was of strong built and he was reluctant to hand over the same," Thakur said.
The duo then allegedly stabbed him and robbed his mobile phone and cash Rs 350, he said adding they fled from the spot leaving the injured man unconscious in a pool of blood.
The engineer hailed from Punjab's Hoshiarpur. He is survived by wife and an 18-month-old child and used to stay alone in his flat.
Hours later, Thakur said, Raju allegedly told Shashi that he wants to take revenge on his neighbour Mukesh and both of them went to Mukesh's house and called him outside. When Mukesh came out, Raju allegedly started beating him with a cricket bat while Shashi stabbed him several times.
Mukesh was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where he survived because of timely treatment, Thakur said.
The mobile phone robbed from Bhardwaj was recovered from Raju's possession while some credit cards were seized from Shashi.
