Madhepura, Bihar: Two persons died in road accident on Madhepura-Singheshwar road in Bihar's Madhepura district on Wednesday that sparked off a protest by local people who torched two vehicles, including a police jeep, a police officer said.
The mishap took place near Madhepura district headquarters as a speeding pick up van crushed two persons to death, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dwarika Pal said.
The irate local people set on fire the pick-up van in protest against the incident, he said.
Mr Pal said that the protesters also torched his jeep when he rushed to the spot to pacify them.
The DSP said that additional policemen were requisitioned to bring the law and order situation under control.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and efforts were on to ascertain the identity of the victims, he said.
