Hisar, Haryana: Two days after they allegedly shot dead their classmate in front of their college, two students of a private engineering college have been arrested by Haryana Police for the murder, police said on Wednesday.
A police spokesman said here that Kalyan Singh and Raj Kumar have been arrested for the alleged murder of their classmate Pradeep Jangda on Monday. Police have also recovered the revolver used in the killing.
Pradeep, who belonged to a poor family and a lower caste, was allegedly killed as the arrested youths were upset that he was a bright student and used to top in the class.
Pradeep and the attackers were students of second year mechanical engineering at the Kalpana Chawla College of Engineering and Technology.
Pradeep, whose father is a carpenter, was the only son of his parents. He had alighted from a bus outside the college when the accused opened fire, killing him.
Pradeep and his family had earlier told the college authorities that the two - Kalyan Singh and Raj Kumar - used to harass him.
"After rigorous investigation by the police, the accused Kalyan Singh revealed that on the day of incident, he had gone to his relative Kuldeep Singh, who lives in a rented house in Azad Nagar and took his licensed revolver and then reached college along with his accomplice, Rajkumar. On reaching the college, he took the motorcycle of one of their friends and as Pradeep was about to reach college, they fired gun shots at him," the spokesman said.
"The accused said that after committing the crime, they fled to Bhadra city in Rajasthan. They read in the newspaper that Pradeep had been killed," he added.
