Two held for IPL betting in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Two businessmen were arrested on Sunday for allegedly accepting bets on the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) matches from Gandhi Nagar locality, police said.

"The Task Force sleuths nabbed Montu Bandari and Sharat Sony and seized Rs 45,000 in cash, a TV set, two cell phones and other incriminating material from their possession,

"Task Force DCP V B Kamalasan Reddy said. Both Bandari and Sharat are friends and are into different businesses. The duo, however, started accepting bets from punters hoping that they could make a fast buck," the DCP said.

Bandari and Sharat were accepting bets even on the World Cup 2011 matches and would keep changing their hideouts frequently, Reddy said adding that "The duo used to rent flats and procure cell phones with SIM cards on fictitious names and addresses and were accepting bets for the on-going IPL matches played between different teams across the country".

The accused along with the seized items were handed over to Musheerabad police for further investigation.
