Two accused, including a close relative were arrested for allegedly murdering a woman and her four daughters in Balodabazar district, the police said on Tuesday.
A 20-year-old Girdhari Das and a relative of the killed woman Digamber Vaishnav, 27, both residents of Raigarh district, were apprehended from the Sarangarh police station area of their native district, the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Balodabazar said.
Fifty five-year-old Sri Bai Vaishnav and her four daughters, Amrika, 35, Mala, 15, Sahodra Bai, 25 and Mantori alias Kondi, 25 were found strangled in their house in Khapridih village in Bhilaigarh area on Sunday night.
Digamber, the son-in-law of one of the daughter of Sri Bai had come to her house along with Girdhari and murdered five members of the family, the ASP said.
When all family members slept after dinner, both the accused first strangled Mantori to death and later killed three others, one after the other.
After that, both called Amrika, who lived near her mother Sri Bai's house, claiming that her mother was ill.
Later, they killed her, stole Rs 6,000 in cash as well as a pair of silver anklets from her almirah and fled the scene, the ASP said.
