Barsana: Two people died and 18 were injured today after a stampede broke out at the Radha Rani Temple in Barsana near Mathura in Uttar Pradesh.
The incident occurred during the Radha-Ashtami celebrations for which more than five lakh devotees had gathered at the famous temple.
"Two female pilgrims died separately, one of a heart attack, and another of injury caused by slipping on the stairs," Senior Superintendent of Police (Mathura), NR Padmaja, said. "The post-mortem reports are awaited," the senior police officer added.
Senior police officials from Mathura are on the spot to take stock of the situation.
