In a shocking case of medical negligence, two more maternal deaths have been reported in Jodhpur's Umaid hospital. So far, 15 mothers have died during childbirth - that too in Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's constituency - and the Rajasthan government has no answers so far. (

There are a total of four separate enquiries being conducted into the tragedy but not one investigation has been able to give a definite answer to what caused these deaths - whether it was just spurious glucose or unhealthy conditions in the operating theatre or labour rooms.
The critical question remains: Why does it take 15 deaths for the government to sit up and take notice of a healthcare system that is crumbling?
