Bhiwani: Two widows were beaten to death at Ranila village in Haryana's Bhiwani district late on Sunday night. Two men have been arrested, police said on Monday.
According to the police, the deceased were identified as Suman (35) and Shakuntala (40). They were beaten to death in front of villagers.
"The women were beaten badly with sticks by Shakuntala's nephew Naresh and his cousin Subhash. The accused were suspicious about the women's character and they had also threatened the villagers of dire consequences if anyone dared to save them," said a police official late on Monday.
He added, "We have arrested both of them. Naresh is already convicted in a rape case and he was out of jail on parole. The bodies were lying unattended in the open and nobody had touched them till the arrival of police."
Village headman (sarpanch) Rishi Sahu had informed the police about the incident on Monday morning.
Ashwin, Bhiwani's superintendent of police, said, "This is a heinous twin-murder case and we will make sure that strict action will be taken against the accused. So far we have arrested two persons and our investigation is on."
