Rishikesh: A 29-year-old Ukrainian woman was feared drowned and her Russian husband injured on Tuesday after their vehicle plunged into river Ganga near Phoolchatti.
The mishap occurred at 10.30 am when the couple was going by car to Phoolchatti, a place near Rishikesh on Neelkanth marg known for its scenic beauty, police said.
Olena Slivinska lost control over the vehicle which veered off the road and fell into the river, they said.
Her 45-year-old husband Eduard Zhuravlev was fished out of the river in an injured condition and rushed to a hospital.
But Slivinska and their car seem to have been swept away by the strong currents, police said.
However, efforts are on to trace the woman, they said, adding that the tourist couple was coming from the Bageshwar district.
