Pratapgarh:
A 16-year-old rape survivor in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, has been brutally attacked allegedly by the brother of the man who is accused of raping her.
The girl's parents alleged that the man, named Lalji, had attacked her with a blunt weapon inflicting grievous injury to her face and mouth last night. It was an attempt, they alleged, to cut off her tongue to ensure that she would not be able to speak again.
The teen was scheduled to depose before a magistrate in the rape case later this month. The man accused of raping her earlier this year is in jail; a cousin of his has also been arrested.
Doctors treating the girl at a government hospital in Pratapgarh, nearly 170 km from state capital Lucknow, said her speech has been temporarily impaired.
