Nagpur:
The arrival of a water tanker in the heart of Nagpur city is characterized by hordes of people jostling for just a bottle full of water.
Water is scarce and the temperature is over 45 degrees.
Yet a few kilometres away, water parks guzzle thousands of gallons of water each day offering a rain dance, fountains and slides to beat the heat. There are four water parks around Nagpur city.
"It is very pleasant here. Nagpur's temperature may be 47 degrees but we have forgotten that. Here it feels like Kashmir," says Kiran Thakur, rain dance enthusiast.
However, it's not just Nagpur but the entire region of Vidarbha that is water-starved. Six of its eleven districts are worst hit with reservoirs in the region having less than 14 per cent water.
"We get just four or five buckets of water in five days," says Parvati Sahu, a resident.
"The tanker comes only twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays," added Mangala Sodhekar, another resident.
The water parks argue they use their own water sources. Gautam Roy, Manger, Krazy Kastle said," We use our own boring system and we recycle the water. So we don't depend on outside water."
While the rest of Vidarbha hopes desperately for a good monsoon, water austerity clearly makes no difference.
