Nashik, Maharashtra: Irrigation department on Wednesday released 3 TMC water from Mula dam for Jayakwadi reservoir which supplies water to Marathwada region amid tight police security.
Twenty activists of Shiv Rajya party, who were protesting against the release of water, were removed from the spot. Some of them had threatened to drown themselves in the oncoming water flow.
Local MLAs of BJP and Congress in Ahmednagar district are strongly opposed to the decision to release water.
Executive Engineer with Irrigation Department, A N Mhaske, said that 3 TMC water would be released for Jaikwadi on Thursday from Darna dam in Nashik district.
Tight security would be maintained in view of the protests, he said.
The distance between Mula and Jaikwadi is about 60 kilometres.
