Who killed Zahid: Who killed 16-year-old Zahid Farooq at Nishat area of Srinagar on Friday? Five days on, the shooter is yet to be identified.
Locals say Zahid and some local boys were jeering at a passing Border Security Force (BSF) convoy, which angered the troops, and a jawan shot Zahid.
Police sources corroborate the sequence of events. Sources say data collated from the nearby mobile tower establish the presence of a BSF convoy in the area at the time of the shooting. Data also points to the presence of a BSF commandant's jeep.
''I don't want to comment on the probe. We have certain information available to us. We are sharing that information with the Government of India,'' says Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
The BSF, earlier had denied involvement, but now has changed its position. Inspector General (IG) Baljit Singh says, ''I will not let the guilty hide. I am supervising our own internal investigations. If anyone from the BSF is involved, he will be punished.''
Srinagar has been shut for nearly eight days. Protests are continuing over the killing of Zahid and the death of 13-year-old Wamik Farooq, killed by police tear gas shells.
Ironically it's not just killing of an innocent youth in cold blood, but the fact that the arms and ammunition used in the incident by a security forces official are yet to be accounted for. The challenge for the government is to deliver justice without further delay.
