Surat:
A woman and her parents were arrested for allegedly killing a new-born baby by giving him poisonous substance in Gandevi taluka of Navsari district of Gujarat, police said on Saturday.
Neelam Patel, her father Natubhai Patel and mother Tulsiben Patel were arrested for allegedly killing Neelam's one-day-old boy and then trying to dispose of the child's body in Bilimora graveyard, they said.
According to police, Neelam gave birth to a baby boy in Gandevi government hospital on Wednesday.
Later, for some reasons which could not be ascertained, she allegedly gave poisonous substance to the child with the help of her parents, which led to the baby's death.
Neelam, along with her parents, later tried to destroy evidence by trying to bury the body of the baby in a graveyard in Billimore, police said.
Police said they conducted investigations based on a complaint filed by Neelam's in-laws and found that she got rid of the baby with the help of her parents and hence arrested all three of them last night and sent to judicial custody.
Family members of Neelam and her husband were being interrogated, and investigation was on, they added.
