Woman arrested for sex worker's murder

Bangalore: An attempt to mend her husband's wayward ways made 45-year-old Devi murder a sex worker in Kalasipalya, police said on Wednesday.

Devi's friend, Lokesh alias Loki, 35, helped her to strangulate Koochupudi to death. Both Devi and Loki were arrested, after the former had reportedly confessed to the crime.

The 35-year-old woman's body was found near the Kalasipalya bus stand on October 6 morning. Police said they identified the woman with the help of some local residents.

Local residents said Koochupudi had been operating in the area for the past three months. They were, however, not sure of her real name and other details, including her native place.

Police said they were collecting more information on the woman. The body bore no visible injuries, and a post-mortem examination was conducted at the Victoria Hospital.

The autopsy revealed that Koochupudi was drunk when she was murdered.

Investigation into the murder led the police to Raja, a private firm worker, who had been frequently visiting Koochupudi.

Police interrogated Raja on suspicion, and he told the police that his wife Devi was aware of his frequent visits to Koochupudi.

The two women had often quarrelled over the issue. This piece of information made Devi the prime suspect in the murder.

Devi reportedly told the police that she had invited Koochupudi to her house on October 5 night, and offered her alcohol.

Once the sex worker got drunk, Devi, along with Lokesh, strangulated her to death.
Later they dumped Koochupudi's body outside the house, where it was found the next morning.
