A Junior Health Inspector in Kerala died after being bitten by a snake as she was walking through a rubber plantation to collect details for census.
The 36-year-old woman, V Bindu, was undergoing treatment for the snake bite at the Kottayam medical college where she passed away yesterday, hospital sources said.
Bindu was working as junior health inspector at the Thannithod primary health centre, and was on her way to collect census details from a few household in a remote place called Manimarutikuttam near Thekkuthottu in Pathnamthitta district. She was walking through a rubber plantation when she was attacked by the snake.
Hearing her cries, people living nearby, gave her first aid and rushed her to a hospital in Pathnamthitta district and then to Kottayam medical college hospital.
Bindu is survived by her husband who is in the Gulf and two children aged 12 and 14.
Last year also during census duty she was bitten by a snake and had survived.
