Woman booked for killing daughter suffering from leprosy

Hyderabad: Police have booked a woman who allegedly attempted to kill her daughter suffering from leprosy near the forests on the border of Nellore district.

Parveen Bee, a resident of Sitharampuram village and a mother of three children with her relative Mahabub Peera wanted to allegedly eliminate the 17-year-old girl as her leprosy had become an obstacle for the marriage proposals for her other children, they said.

The duo on the pretext of providing treatment to the girl took her from Kadapa town to Porumamilla forests on the border of Nellore district on Monday and allegedly strangled her with her chunni and also hit her with stones resulting in injuries to her head and one eye, Sitharampuram police said.

"Later, the duo left the place presuming that the girl had died. It was only yesterday that the girl gained consciousness after rains in the forest area and reached near a road from where some bus-passengers noticed her and informed police and hospital authorities," police said.

The girl was shifted to a nearby government hospital, where police recorded her statement and later registered an attempt to murder case against the girl's mother and her relative, police said adding they have also taken the statements of the girl's father today.

The girl's mother and her relative have not been arrested yet as further investigations were on in the case, police said.
