Jhargram: A woman was found strangled to death and tied to a tree in a forest on the outskirts of Jhargram town in West Bengal on Saturday morning.
The police have registered a case of rape and murder but the woman is yet to be identified. No arrests have been made in the case so far.
Locals claim the body of another woman was hanging from a tree in the same area eight to 10 days ago. While they suspect foul play, the police claim that was a clear case of suicide. However, the recovery of the woman's body, estimated to be 19 to 20 years old, has caused alarm in Jhargram with locals demanding more policing in the area.
The post-mortem report is awaited.
