New Delhi: A 50-year-old woman, who was found living with her mother's corpse in a south Delhi house, was on Wednesday shifted to the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences in the capital.
Shalini, who appeared to be mentally disturbed, was living in her Saket D-block residence with the body of her 80-year-old mother, Vinodini Gupta.
A court-appointed committee took the decision to shift her to IHBAS.
The decomposed body of Vinodini Gupta was discovered from her residence on Saturday after a DJB employee who came there to check water meter became suspicious. Later, neighbours informed police.
Shockingly, Shalini stayed in the house with the body for a few months not recognising that she was dead.
A police team had come to the spot after the neighbours informed them.
The police broke open the door only to sense a foul smell emanating from the room, and found a woman, later identified as Shalini, sitting in the room, a senior police official said.
"Then we found a decomposed body on the bed which was identified as that of her mother. We asked the woman about it but she did not speak. She did not tell anything," the official said.
Shalini had told people that her mother had died a year ago, though neighbours said they had spotted Vinodini a few months ago. She also claimed that the body which was found in her house was not of her mother's.
She told people that a builder residing in Golf Links has dumped the body in her house.
