Ghaziabad:
A woman who allegedly stole gold and diamond jewellery from shopping malls along with her male accomplice has been arrested in Ghaziabad, police said.
Shenaj alias Bano was arrested from Pacific Mall on Saturday when she was allegedly trying to steal jewellery from a showroom and was caught on CCTV camera installed there, Senior Superintendent of Police Raghubir Lal said.
The woman and her brother-in-law Sajid were carrying a cash reward of Rs 20,000 on their heads.
"Bano, who hails from Bijnore district of Uttar Pradesh, and Sajid of Dhampur town were also caught in the CCTV camera at the jewellery shop of Ghaziabad Mayor Damyanti Goel on
February 14 from where she picked up a diamond ring," he said.
Bano and Sajid, whom police referred to as 'Bunty' and 'Babli' after a Bollywood film, would walk in jewellery showrooms in malls pretending to be buyers. Once the salesman would get busy, they would swiftly escape from there with the ornaments.
Her husband Shenaj Nasim is presently lodged in Muzaffarnagar jail in a loot case, police said.
The woman was produced before the magistrate who sent her to jail, they said, adding Sajid is still at large.
