Haridwar: A woman allegedly killed her husband today on the suspicion that he was having an extra-marital affair, SSP Haridwar, Sweety Singh said.
In order to make it appear like a case of loot, the victim's wife, identified as Richpal, took out the chain and rings from the victim's body and lodged a complaint of loot and murder at the Jwalapur Police Station.
Within few hours, police unravelled the mystery when they recovered the jewellery from the house of Richpal's sister-in-law Soni, following which they were arrested.
During interrogation, the accused woman confessed to having murdered her husband Surendra Pal Singh Virk, former President of the Haridwar Bar Association by taking the help of a relative named Soni to kill Virk.
The duo allegedly used a cricket bat and stumps to badger the victim to death at midnight.
The accused woman suspected that her husband was having an extra-marital affair and feared that he would desert her and their children in order to settle with another woman.
The police has registered a case under Indian penal code 302 against Richpal.
