Madurai:
The driver of a car in which a Tamil Nadu minister was travelling has been arrested after the vehicle fatally knocked down a 38-year old woman in neighbouring Virudhunagar district.
Environment Minister T P M Moideen Khan was returning to Chennai from Palayamkottai when Muniyammal (38), crossing the road, was hit by the car and died on the spot at Sattur, police said.
On information, Backward Class Minister K K S S R Ramachandran, who hails from Sattur, rushed to the spot and took measures to shift the body of the woman to Sattur General Hospital.
Later, both the Ministers met the family of the deceased and consoled them and assured necessary compensation would be provided to the family. The family members said the woman was unmarried.
A case was registered and driver Amalraj (50) arrested, police said.
