Ghazipur:
A woman village-head was on Tuesday arrested in connection with the murder of a sub- inspector, who was killed in Jamaniya area in January, during a clash between police and villagers, official sources said.
Kalawati Devi, 60, village head of Kakrait village, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon in connection with the murder of T Ramarao, who was killed in firing by villagers in Jamaniya area on January 5, they said.
Devi was arrested from Sarju Pandey Park where she was staging a dharna demanding action against policemen involved in the incident, police said.
Ramarao was killed and several others injured when workers of a political party clashed with police at Jamaniya police outpost in Ghazipur district.
In-charge of railway station outpost T Ramarao was killed and several other police personnel were injured when a mob of more than 200 people went on rampage, indulged in heavy brick batting and fired in Jamaniya area, Special DGP (Law & Order) Brij Lal had then told reporters.
SP Manoj Kumar while confirming the arrest said that the village head had admitted that she was present on the spot when trouble broke out on January 5.
