Agartala:
The Tripura government plans to set up all-women police stations in every district, open fast track courts and take up an awareness campaign to curb atrocities against women, official sources said today.
The process for opening all women police stations in all eight districts has started and would be completed within two years, the sources said.
There is a women police station at Agartala and women desks have been opened in all police stations in the state.
The state government has also sent proposals to the Tripura High Court to open fast track courts in all districts for quick disposal of cases of crimes against women.
The government has decided to take up an awareness campaign and seek advice from village panchayats, municipal councils and autonomous district councils on checking crimes against women.
Chief Minister Manik Sarkar had earlier said that atrocities on women have become a social menace and everyone should come forward to stop it.
The Opposition Congress has, however, pointed to the low conviction rate in the state.
Senior Congress leader Ratan Lal Nath said that according to the National Crime Records Bureau, crime against women in the state is very high and the rate of conviction abnormally low.
