The Delhi Metro is set to commence operations on the Yamuna Bank-Anand Vihar link from Thursday, January 7 with the Commissioner for Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) giving a go ahead for it.
The CMRS on Wednesday gave formal clearance to DMRC for the introduction of commercial services for passengers between the Yamuna Bank-Anand Vihar Metro link.
"Commercial services will begin on this line from 6 am on 7th January with alternate trains going towards Noida and Anand Vihar, respectively from Dwarka side," the DMRC said in a statement.
The 6.25 km-long line that will also benefit residents of Ghaziabad and other parts of Uttar Pradesh, is expected to draw huge crowds given the number of people who depend on private mode of transport to reach the national capital.
This will be the first section to be opened in 2010, which will witness as many as five new lines being added to the national capital's metro network.
The Yamuna Bank Metro station will be an important "interchange point" for passengers and trains originating from Dwarka sector 9 will head towards Anand Vihar while trains starting from Dwarka will go upto Noida City Centre.
The Anand Vihar Metro station has been planned as a major integrating terminal that will bring together three modes of public transport, namely the Metro, railways and buses.
