Yavatmal: Fake sadhu jailed for raping minor

Yavatmal (Maharashtra): The fast track court at Pusad has sentenced a fake sadhu to rigorous imprisonment for two years on charges of luring away and raping a minor girl.

According to Pusad Police, the accused Mahadeo Lokhande (65), after presenting himself as a sadhu, had befriended the victim's family.

On January 14 last, the fake sadhu took the minor girl to a fair and committed the heinous crime. The girl narrated her plight to the parents who lodged complaint with the police.

The police filed an FIR after the investigation and presented 12 witnesses before the court.

During the trial, the court recorded the statements of all the 12 witnesses and on the basis of their account and the evidence on record held the accused guilty and sentenced him to undergo two-year Rigorous Imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 200 and in lieu of the fine undergo further imprisonment for 15 days.
