Howrah, West Bengal: Youth Congress (YC) workers blocked Howrah-Mumbai NH 6 at Khalisani Malpara in West Bengal's Howrah district for over 40 minutes on Tuesday in protest against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's statement in which she allegedly used 'undemocratic language' against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The YC workers demanded that Ms Banerjee should publicly apologise for her comment made on Monday.
YC Uluberia unit president Safiqul Islam alleged that police and Trinamool Congress workers jointly attacked the agitators to lift the blockade.
Traffic on the busy highway was hit due to the blockade, the police said.
