Athletes give thumbs up to JN Stadium athletics track
New Delhi: The synthetic track at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium which was damaged during the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony but repaired later got the thumbs up from Indian and foreign athletes on the first day of the track and field competition on Wednesday.

Indian women 400m heat winner Manjeet Kaur said she liked the track and she did not encounter any problem on it while running.

"It was a very good track and I did not find any problem on it," she said after qualifying for the semifinal round with 52.75sec effort.

Kelly Massey of England, who finished fourth but still qualified for the semifinal tomorrow said she knew repair work was going on till yesterday but said the organisers have done "a great job" to make it ready in time.

"The track was very good. It was fast since it was a new one and so I did not face any problem. I had come over here last evening and I saw people repairing the tract. But today it was all fine, they have done a great job," she said.

Nigerian Agnes Osasuwa, who won on the women's 100m race heats, said that the track was world-class and she has no problems.

"It was excellent and world class. It was pretty fast surface," she said.

Commonwealth Games Federation President Michael Fennell had said earlier in the day that the track was damaged during the opening ceremony on Monday but the technical delegates have given all clear for the competitions to start.
