New Delhi:
Defending champions Australia pulled off a 2-1 win over a lacklustre India in a Commonwealth Games Pool A hockey match on Wednesday.
The Hockeyroos, who beat India in final of the 2006 Melbourne Games to win the gold, led the hosts 1-0 at half-time through a goal by striker Shelly Liddelow at the Major Dhyan Chand stadium.
The Aussies made it 2-0 when forward Megan Rivers slammed in a field goal past Indian goalkeeper Dipika Murthy, who otherwise impressed with some fine saves.
India's 15-year-old star Rani Rampal reduced the margin with a field goal just a minute from the final whistle after being fed a pass by captain Surinder Kaur.
The Indians, who drew 1-1 with Scotland in their opening match, next play Trinidad and Tobago while Australia take on South Africa on Friday.
