New Delhi: Scott Sunderland made it two cycling gold medals in two events for Australia on Tuesday, setting a new Commonwealth Games record in the men's 1000m time-trial.

Sunderland, 22, recorded a time of 1:01.411 at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex to edge out Malaysia's Mohd Rizal Tisin, who finished in 1:02.768.

New Zealand's Edward Dawkins was third in 1.02:777.

Sunderland, the 1000m time trial winner at the Los Angeles World Cup in 2008, gained victory inside the first 20 seconds, going through the 250m mark more than a second faster than Tisal, whose mediocre start let him down.

Earlier Australia's Anna Meares won the women's 500m time trial.
