Canada's Hayden wins 100m freestyle
New Delhi: Brent Hayden on Thursday won Canada's second gold medal in the pool, beating his own Commonwealth Games record to grab victory in the 100m freestyle.

Hayden turned first in the blue-riband two-lap race to touch home in 47.98, 0.20 of a second lower than his previous best set in the heats on Monday.

The 26-year-old's surge coming into the last 25m left it a race for silver between the defending Commonwealth champion from Melbourne in 2006, Simon Burnett of England, and Australia's Olympic silver medallist, Eamon Sullivan.

Burnett won the battle in 48.54, with Sullivan in bronze with 48.69.

Hayden had shown his form coming into the Games, after winning silver in the Pan Pacifics in Irvine, California, in August.

Canada teammate Ryan Cochrane won gold in the 400m freestyle earlier this week.
