Chanu and Nwaokolo were tied with the same clearance of 94 kg in the snatch competition but the latter, who weighed marginally less than the Indian woman, settled the issue in the clean and jerk category by clearing 8 kgs more.
India added two more medals to its Commonwealth Games tally on the opening day of competition. Both the medals came in the sport of weightlifting.
Sukhen Dey and Srinivasa Rao won the silver and the bronze in the 56 kg category of the weightlifting event.
Remember the weightlifting coach had promised 12 medals from the sport.
This takes India's tally on day one upto four medals but with the shooting starting on Tuesday, that total will swell considerably over the next few days.
