Gandhinagar:
The Commonwealth Express, an exhibition on wheels showcasing the importance of the Commonwealth Games -- to be held in Delhi Oct 3-14, arrived at the railway station in Gujarat on Tuesday and was welcomed with a colourful cultural programme.
The train has 14 coaches, of which five have rare games memorabilia and six are devoted to information technology. One of the coaches displays the sport events scheduled during the Commonwealth Games, as also the stadia where each of the events will be held.
The exhibition, inaugurated by Gujarat's Additional Chief Secretary (science and technology) Ravi Saxena, will remain here for two days before moving on.
Saxena pointed out that though the main objective of the exhibition is to promote the Commonwealth Games, it showcases the importance of information and communication technology (ICT) in different fields and its influence on human life.
Flagged off from New Delhi June 24, the Commonwealth Express is travelling through different cities in the country and will return to the national capital Oct 2.
The special train is a joint project between the information technology and railway ministries. The exhibition on wheels is travelling to each state and will stop at 50 select stations across the country.
