CWG Athlete: Was held captive while photos taken
New Delhi: The Welsh athlete who had alleged molestation at the hands of an Indian man in the Commonwealth Games village was also held captive, according to the complaint given to the police by her coach James Thomson.

The complaint, a copy of which is exclusively in possession of MiD DAY, was registered on Wednesday claimed that the alleged attacker who first stalked the victim and then held her captive inside her room, wanted a picture of her in a particular "pose".

The Welsh athlete is housed in the third floor of tower number 1 in the Games village. The athlete was allegedly held captive in her room for half-an-hour by the accused during which time he did not allow her to come out of the room and kept standing on the gate for clicking the photograph.

Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat called it a case of harassment and the police have filed an FIR, as per the victim's statement.

"I was pushed into my room when I refused to act according to him. He was banging on my door but I did not open the door as I was frightened. After sometime I thought he has gone but as I stepped out he was still standing there and asked me again to pose for a photograph. I rushed towards lobby and reported the incident to team manager," read the statement of the victim.

The victim did not reveal her name in the statement.  The manager informed James Thomson (Specialist Protection) about the incident. Thomson got an FIR registered on behalf of the athlete at the Games Village police station.

A senior police officer said the incident occurred at around 10 pm. The victim, Vivien (name changed) alleged that a man wearing a dark uniform, who was also carrying a camera and a mobile phone, approached her and talked very politely and asked her whether he could take a photograph. Viven obliged.

"I let him click a picture. He first took a photo of himself with his own cell-phone and then mine as well. He then asked for another under the pretext that the first one wasn't good. He asked me to remove my bag and to pose. I refused and he pushed me into my room," Vivien alleged in her statement to the police.

Police source said for five minutes Vivien kept the door locked from inside to avoid the accused. After five minute, someone knocked at her door. When she asked who it was, the alleged stalker responded.
"The man then started banging on her door and she got scared. After half-an-hour she went outside but found that man still there. She then rushed downstairs," the source said.

Rajan Bhagat pointed out that CCTV cameras are installed at the village premises but not where the athletes live.

"We don't know who attacked her. She did not tell her name to the police. Her senior approached the police for registering an FIR," the police spokesperson said.

The FIR has been lodged under Sections 342 (confining a person) and 509 (outraging modesty of a woman) of the IPC.
