CWG Day 8: India aims to maintain lead over England

New Delhi: Enjoying an impressive run in the Commonwealth Games medals tally, India is keen to continue the good work on the eighth day of the Commonwealth Games. (See: CWG 2010 Medals Tally)

Out of six gold medals in Athletics on Monday, India would want to clinch at least two with Krishna Pooniya representing the country in discus throw and  Renjit Maheshwari in men's triple jump.

Indian swimmers and divers, who have been disappointing in the Games so far, would want to better their performance on Monday at the SP Mukherjee Swimming Stadium. On Monday, Hari Prasad Thimmarayappa, Manesh Kumar Mohan will be testing their skills in men's 3m springboard event, while Hrutika Parvatayya Shriram, Deepti Panwar will be competing in the women's 10m platform event.

Pugilists Suranjoy Singh and Amandeep Singh, who have assured at least two medals in boxing, will be fighting in their respective semi-finals.

Shooters, who have won maximum number of medals for India in these Games, will be leading India medal hopes on Monday as well. World champion Tejaswini Sawant and Meena Kumari will be taking aim in the Women's 50m Prone Rifle Pairs event. Allan Daniel Peoples, Mairaj Ahmad Khan will be taking part in the Men's Skeet Pairs event.

India has a chance of winning another medal in the last weightlifting event. Sarabjit will be representing India in the 105+kg Men Finals.
