New Delhi:
'Shera' or the Commonwealth Games mascot made of multi-coloured leaves and flowers and 'green' boards bearing symbols of sports disciplines will welcome the visitors during the mega event here next month.
The Horticulture Department of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is preparing 12 floral Games mascots and a number of sign boards with green plant bases to present a refreshing and attractive view of the city during the Games.
Delhi Mayor Prithvi Raj Sawhney along with the MCD top brass and media today inspected the horticultural preparations for the Games at Rajiv Gandhi Samriti Van.
Shera, the multi-colour mascot of the Games is coming alive with flowers brought from different parts of the country as well as multi-coloured leaves, attached on frames.
Another special concept introduced by MCD for the Games is the sign boards with plant base.
"The technique is based on Japanese know-how. Based on iron frame with covering of nylon net spread with soft earth, the plants have been meticulously placed and grown all over the surface. Interspersed with multi-coloured plants, these will be placed at 39 strategic locations," an official said.
MCD feels the green welcome boards will be of special interest to the foreign visitors.
The Mayor directed the Horticulture Department to prepare some of the boards in Hindi too.
