Glitches continue to hog limelight at Commonwealth Games

New Delhi: A day after the spectacular opening ceremony gave a new fillip to the Commonwealth Games after its shambolic build-up, technical glitches over information about various disciplines continued to hog the limelight.

The official Australian Commonwealth Games federation's website contained the full schedule of each and every discipline running into 69 pages, but it was not available with the Games news and results providers.

The information about various competitions that commenced on Monday, in particular swimming, was not complete. Some of the races had semi final heats after the preliminary ones but these had not been displayed in the official Delhi Games website.

The 2010 Games website indicated that the finals of the 50m men's backstroke and 50m women's butterfly were scheduled later today while in fact only the semi finals are to be held according to the actual schedule available at the swimming venue.

Asked about the misleading information, an official from the Games News Services at the Main Press Centre told PTI that they forwarded to the scribes whatever information was provided to them by the organisers.

"Ask Swiss Timing who are in charge of Games schedule, results etc, but you may not get it as they are busy in solving some other problems (relating to the conduct of the competitions)," he said.
