New Delhi: Weightlifter Sukhen Dey, who won a silver in the men's 56 kg category at the Commonwealth Games, said on Tuesday that he would have liked to win a gold medal in front of the home crowd.
"I was looking for a gold medal haul but faltered in my third attempt in clean and jerk. Gold is something that every athlete looks for. Competition was tough and I tried my best," said Dey.
"There was no mental pressure on me before the start of the competition. But it was just not my day," said the youngster from Army Sports Institute who won the silver in the men's 56 kg class.
Dey gave a stiff competition to Games record holder Hamizan Amirul Ibrahim of Malaysia before settling for a silver, five kgs short of the winner's effort. Ibrahim cleared 257kg and Rao lifted 248kg for the bronze medal.
Dey and compatriot Srinivasa Rao won silver and bronze medals respectively in men's 56kg class on Monday at the Jawahar Lal Nehru stadium.
His teammate Srinivasa Rao, who won the bronze in the category, confessed he exceeded his own expectations.
"I am happy with my performance and the way I won the bronze," Rao said.
