Impressive England drub Canada 4-1 in hockey
New Delhi: Hot favourites England defeated Canada 4-1 to register their second successive win in the Commonwealth Games women's hockey on Wednesday.

The top-seeds, who won a bronze in last month's World Cup in Argentina, trailed Canada 1-0 after a fourth-minute Diana Roemer goal before striking through Chloe Rogers to go into the half-time tied 1-1 at the Major Dhyan Chand stadium.

The second-half saw England dominate their rivals completely in the Pool B match with Alex Danson and Charlotte Craddock scoring field goals in the 39th and 48th minutes.

Crista Cullen, who scored a hat-trick in England's 4-1 win over traditional rivals Wales on Tuesday, converted a penalty corner two minutes from close to round off the tally.

England, winners of bronze medal at the elite six-nation Champions Trophy, have six points in their kitty now.

Canada suffered their second defeat following a 3-2 drubbing at the hands of Malaysia on Monday.

Danson said the team will carry the confidence of having won back-to-back matches when they meet New Zealand on Friday.

"We now know that we can come back and play successive matches in this heat," said the 25-year-old. "There is still a lot of work that we need to to. We need to keep up the pressure till the end.

"Canada's players are very fit. We knew we will have to match them physically. So that way there were no surprises, they played the way we expected them to."
