Indian women paddlers win silver in team event
New Delhi: Singapore beat India 3-0 to win the Commonwealth Games women's table tennis team gold medal on Friday and capture a third straight title since the sport was introduced in Manchester in 2002.

World number two Feng Tianwei gave Singapore the perfect start as she dismissed the challenge of Mouma Das 11-5, 11-3, 9-11, 11-7, despite dropping dropping her first set of this Games.

Wang Yuegu then doubled Singapore's advantage with a clinical 11-7, 11-7, 11-5 victory over Shamini Kumaresan.

Former Indian number one Poulomi Ghatak took the first set 12-10 against Li Jiawei in the third match.

But she could not stem the rampant Singapore side as Li rallied to seal the match and the title with a 10-12, 11-7, 11-9, 11-5 victory.

It was Li's third consecutive gold in this event and her ninth Commonwealth Games medal overall after previous appearances in 2002 and 2006.

India, meanwhile, improved on their bronze showing of four years ago with Silver, while Malaysia clinched their first table tennis Commonwealth Games medal with a 3-2 win over England in the bronze medal play-off.
