New Delhi:
Jamaica's Lerone Clarke made the most of Usain Bolt's absence to storm to the men's 100 metres title at the Commonwealth Games on Thursday, crossing the line in 10.12 seconds.
It was a powerful run by the 29-year-old who capitalised on world record holder Bolt and fellow Jamaican defending champion Asafa Powell giving the event a miss.
English hope Mark Lewis-Francis followed up his recent European championship silver with another one here, clocking 10.20 on a hot and humid night at a half-empty Jawaharlal Nehru stadium.
Trinidad and Tobago's Aaron Amstrong grabbed bronze in 10.24, but there was huge disappointment for promising young Jamaican Oshane Bailey who pulled up injured after the semi-finals and didn't race the final.
Bailey, 21, was carried from the track on a stretcher clutching his right hamstring.
Lewis-Francis said he should have won, but his block slipped at the start.
"That's one of the hardest races I've done this season, there's just that little bit of disappointment knowing what could have been," he said.
"This is an amazing season for me, I want to say one thing: I would've won that.
"My block slipped, that's why it looks like I'm so far behind. I had to run deep within just to get a medal. There's a lot more there."
