New Delhi:
Delhiites had a harrowing time reaching their destinations on Monday as police enforced restrictions on exclusive lanes for Commonwealth Games.
It was bumper-to-bumper traffic on the road leading from Games Village in east Delhi's Akshardham to various practice venues from Monday morning and many people were seen stuck in their vehicles.
The uncomfortable weather added to the woes of the motorists.
The NH-24 connecting Delhi with Uttar Pradesh was jampacked.
The restrictions were imposed at 8 am and it will last till 8 pm.
A large number of traffic personnel were fanned out across the city to facilitate Commonwealth Games related traffic as athletes are scheduled to visit practice venues spread across the city.
"I started from Noida at 8:30 am and reached Connaught Place two hours later. The traffic through DND flyover was a horrifying experience," said S Chandrabhanu, a media professional.
Commuters from Mayur Vihar, Vaishali and other east Delhi localities also complained about serpentine queues of vehicles on the NH-24 due to the restrictions.
Anyone deliberately straying into the lanes while they are operational will attract a fine of Rs 2,000. On Sunday, Delhi Police challaned 17 people for deliberately entering Games lanes.
