Smoking ban goes up in smoke inside CWG Village

Smoking ban goes up in smoke inside CWG Village
New Delhi: The smoking ban inside the sprawling Games Village seems to have gone up in smoke as some could be seen puffing cigarettes with impunity.

An African origin worker carrying out electrical works in a makeshift toilet inside the well-guarded campus was happily smoking in a corner.

Asked how he managed to get the cigarettes through, he showed his handkerchief. Inside one of the layers of the well folded handkerchief were two cigarettes.

Though the African was hiding away from public glare and smoking, another foreign worker getting the AC fixed at the media centre, was enjoying his puff out in open.

When pointed out, a volunteer quickly walked up to him and asked him to stub it. He did oblige, but not before taking one last long drag.

As per international norms, all sports sites have to be a strictly no smoking zones.

"Everyday many cigarettes butts are found by the cleaning staff inside the village. If someone smokes inside, away from public, how can he be caught," a volunteer asked.

No-smoking boards are prominently displayed inside the village but then some just don't care.
