New Delhi:
Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Secretary General Lalit Bhanot on Saturday said sprint legend P T Usha could not have been given invitation for the opening ceremony on Sunday as she figures among the Indian contingent.
Usha had complained that she was not invited for the opening ceremony despite she being in Delhi but Bhanot said there was no issue in that matter as she is in the Indian contingent.
"Usha is in Indian contingent as Tintu Luka's coach and there is no need to extend her an invite. She may take part in the march past also. So there was no issue," Bhanot, who is also Organising Committee spokesperson, said.
However, legendary athlete Milkha Singh said he was "shocked" to hear that Usha was not invited.
"How can they do that? She has won so many international medals and she is a legendary athlete. If she is not being invited then who they are inviting. I am shocked to hear that," he said from Chandigarh.
