Trilokpuri, east Delhi: A heavy police contingent, along with the Rapid Action Force, was deployed in east Delhi's Trilokpuri area after two groups clashed on the night of Diwali.
Residents have been fighting pitched battles by pelting stones on security personnel, leaving at least 35 injured including 13 policemen. A number of vehicles have also been vandalised in the area by hooligans.
"We have registered a case of rioting and other sections of IPC and 23 persons have been arrested so far. Combing operations are on and the situation is being monitored at the highest level," said a senior police official.
It all started when some men, belonging to two communities, clashed on Diwali night. Things were brought under control by the police but clashes broke out again last night after which police used tear gas shells and resorted to mild use of force to control the situation.
Senior police officials are camping in the area. There were reports of fresh stone pelting in the area today after which additional force for neighbouring districts have also been deployed in the area.
