2 girls help nab snatchers, rewarded by Delhi Police

New Delhi: Their courageous act not only saved their belongings from two snatchers but also got them a reward from Delhi Police.

Himani and Shilpa helped nab two men who had snatched their bag containing her school certificates and Rs 1,000 cash.

The incident took place near Ramesh Nagar metro station yesterday when the two snatchers, Surender and Nirvan, both 19 years old and undergraduate students of Delhi University, allegedly snatched the bag from Himani, a resident of Saraswati Garden, a senior police official said.

When Himani raised an alarm, the two accused fled from the spot on their bike. Shilpa, a resident of Shardapuri in Ramesh Nagar, saw Himani cry and offered to drop her to her residence.

"When two girls reached near Tankiwala park M S Garden, Himani recognised the two boys who had snatched her bag. Both the girls raised alarm and caught Surender with the help of people at the spot," V Renganathan, ACP, West district, said.

An FIR was lodged and Nirvan was arrested from his house in Pandav Nagar. Police has recovered the bag along with certificates and Rs 1,000 cash from them. The getaway bike has also been recovered.

"Himani and Shilpa were rewarded a Commendation Card Class-I along with cash reward of Rs 1,000 each for their bravery," the official said.

According to police, both Surender and Nirvan are students of B Com IInd year from Delhi University and Surender works as a ward boy at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.
