Aam Aadmi Party leader Ashutosh has predicted the arrest of 2 more party MLAs by the end of day.
New Delhi:
Members of the Aam Aadmi Party are being treated like terrorists, the party's Ashutosh alleged today, predicting that two more AAP lawmakers "will be arrested by the end of the day."
"Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla and MLA Sharad Chauhan Narela have both been getting threatening calls from the Delhi Police. I won't be surprised if they are arrested soon," Ashutosh alleged.
11 of AAPs lawmakers in Delhi have been arrested on various charges. Two of them were arrested within 12 hours on Monday, one accused of trying to run a woman over, the other of desecrating the Quran in Punjab.
Ashutosh claimed Okhla lawmaker Amanatullah Khan was arrested at 7 in the morning by 30 cops who barged into his bedroom, injuring his wife and destroying CCTV cameras.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other party leaders have repeatedly accused the Modi government at the Centre of using the Delhi Police to persecute members of Aam Aadmi Party. Ashutosh today linked it to the elections in Punjab early next year.
"Before the Punjab elections, most of us will be behind bars. Other political parties should understand, what is happening to us today will happen to them tomorrow," he said.
Arvind Kejriwal hopes to repeat in Punjab, his party's success in the Delhi elections, where AAP swept 67 of 70 seats. The BJP had to make do with only three seats, a defeat that Mr Kejriwal alleges PM Modi has found hard to swallow.
In a 10-minute video shared on social media this week, Mr Kejriwal has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is "so frustrated that he can get me killed," alleging that the PM operates in a perpetual state of rage fuelled by dislike for his opponents.
