New Delhi: Following child abuse allegations from Delhi government's Cottage Home for Children at Lajpat Nagar in New Delhi, its Superintendent and a woman Welfare Officer were dismissed and an FIR ordered against the former.
A Delhi government statement however did not reveal the names of the two officials.
Delhi Women and Child Development Minister Sandeep Kumar acted on Friday as the crime came to light after the girl inmates agitated a day earlier against the superintendent and his colleague, alleging they were forced by him to strip.
The minister also inspected the home in the wake of several complaints from the children.
"It was reported that the Superintendent took minor girls to an isolated room and tried to physically abuse them.... A woman Welfare Officer was also involved in the misbehaviour along with this Superintendent," the government statement said.
After consulting the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), the minister asked it to get register a first information report against the Superintendent under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
