25-year-old student allegedly 'filmed' in Delhi University washroom

New Delhi: An unidentified man allegedly tried to film a 25-year-old student on his mobile phone while she was using washroom in the Chemistry Department of Delhi University, police said.

The incident, which took place at around 12.30 pm on yesterday, sparked protest in the university campus in which around 400 students took part.

According to the police, the girl, who is pursuing her final year in MSc (Chemistry) told police that she suspects that a video clip has been made by a male student when she was using the washroom of Chemistry Department.

"As per the complainant, when she was inside the washroom, she saw a hand holding a cell phone camera and trying to record the happenings inside. The washroom is a combined one with a wall erected between the boys' and girls' bathrooms," said a police official.

The girl raised an alarm and immediately people gathered at the spot. They knocked on the bathroom door from where the man was allegedly trying to click pictures. When they got no response from inside, they broke open the door but no one was found inside.

An eyewitness said the bathroom had a window that led to a pipe leading to the ground. Some lab attendants reportedly saw a person running away but no one has been identified so far.

Meanwhile, a senior police official said they have lodged an FIR under section 354C of the Indian Penal Code at Maurice Nagar Police Station against unidentified persons.
